I am trying to figure out if there is a difference in the size of the gasket between a 1 ton and my a ton and a half. If there is can someone please tell me where i can find one for my truck. Thanks

Consider using a compound designed to replace gaskets, made by Permatex and called "The Right Stuff". This is not silicone but a rubber type material. It comes in pressure can and also in a tube designed for your household caulking gun. It is a little pricey ($20 for the tube) but you get multiple uses from it. I have used it on the differential cover and rear axle cover on my '50 Chevy COE and on the oil pan on my Diamond T. It is so easy to use with the caulking gun and so far no drips or even seepage. I was told by the truck parts store that made me aware of it, that it is OEM on certain Caterpillar oil pans. The directions say that you can put the vehicle immediately into service after mounting the part.

Hy Bubba the Emt, please remember to tell us what year of truck you are asking about in your posts, that way we don't have to go and check your profile to find out what you're asking about. Fel-Pro numbers for the cover gaskets are, for single speed rear end RDS 4062, for two speed rear end RDS 5050, and they are not the same as one ton gaskets, hope that helps.

Sorry about that. My mistake and yeah it does help now im trying to figure out if I have a single or two speed axle.

I have a 1946 1 1/2 ton and was able to get one finally from NAPA after the second try, Maybe your local store will be better.

Depending on the year model, a 2-speed axle will have an electric motor or a vacuum diaphragm near the pinion flange, where the driveshaft attaches to the rear end.

I had a heck of a time finding a compatible gasket for mine, and it wouldn't stop leaking w/o gasket sealer. I finaly gave up and used the previously mentioned "right stuff" with no gasket. Haven't lost a drop since!
Now my transmission is another issue,... :P
