I know this probably has been discussed somewhere in the Electrical Bay forum, but to make my life easier I would rather ask then trying to search.

I'm going to buy a complete wiring harness for my 59 Chevy Fleet 12vlt. And when I say complete I mean I need to re-wire from front to back.

My question or question's is this. Are the wiring harness sold by brothers,lmc,classic and every other truck place we buy from the same manufacture, say like reproduction bumpers,grills and so forth? Or are they made by various company's? And if they are made by different company's, who do you recommend buying from? They all seem to be in the same price range,so I'm more concerned with quality, ease of installation and customer service if I have any questions..

If anybody has bought a wiring harness lately,say for the task force series or any model, i would gladly appreciate your input before spending the hard earned green stuff.

I completely rewired my 55 2nd Task Force with the harness (approx. $100) from Classic Parts of America. I ripped my old harness out and redid it with this harness. I thought the instructions were good and have no complaints.

Are these harnesses identical or very close to stock?

YnZ will make you an exact replica of the original for a price. Each harness is made to order so it's pretty safe to assume that they don't all come from Dayton.

I am seriously considering an American Autowire OEM replacement harness for my '58 GMC Suburban carryall, even though they are pricey($500). I tried to talk with the rep at the NSRA Nats in Kalamazoo this September, but he didn't want to take the time to tell me everyhting it included. I do have the catalog, and will try to call them after the holidays. Have any of you purchased one and installed it?

I installed a YnZ harness in dad's 49. It fit perfect, great quality, easy to follow instructions, and it looks almost original. I was hoping I could find a place that actually used the original cloth covered wire, but this looks close enough.

badmoonreizen, I also belong on the chevytalk.com board also. Everybody talks good about A.A.W. as far as quaulity and service.

After unsucessfully installing a cheap harness-- $135 for one size fits all (dont even remember the brand name), I did some research and decided on a Ron Francis Harness. The instructions were great and it was put together according to what I had on my truck. It was around $300 and made in America.

I used the American Autowire Highway 22 kit. It's hard to beat this product. Each module (ignition, gauges, steering wheel turnsigs, horn, etc.) comes with about 6/10 feet longer wire than you need. You could mount your fuse panel all the way back in the bed if you wanted to. The advantage of the longer wire is to allow you to tuck your wires back and hide them. You can easily add courtesy lights under the dash and elsewhere, turn signals, additional gauges; it allows for 22 different panel connects. The directions were very easy to follow.

I used Hot Rod wires in my '56 and I was very happy with it.

I just bought the American Autowire complete kit for my '66 Fleetside. I arrives today. It was $420 on Ebay. It is supposed to have everything including the light sockets. I'll let you know after this weekend how complete the kit really is and how difficult it is to install. I have a crew of four buddies helping me this Saturday and Sunday. We hope to knock out the entire rewiring project with time to spare?
