Are the intake manifolds the same for 216 and 235 engines? I was looking at mine today and the spacer between the carb and manifold does not fit flush but extends over the edge of the manifold (towards the engine)Is that correct? Also does that heat spacer ever been known to melt?

There are differences. The Heat riser bolt pattern is different. The intake port diameter for the 1950 and later 235 is 1/8" larger than for the 216s and the pre-1950 235s. The master Parts manual gives the part numbers and some physical data on the manifolds and related parts. The 216 manifolds will fit the 235 head, but the stock intake port alignment rings cannot be used. The 235s also have a larger bolt pattern for the carburetor. I've never seen the insulator-spacer melt, but I've seen them erode and cause vacuum leaks.

Thanks Hoyt,
should the insulator stick out over the inside vertical edge of the intake? I will take a picture and post later today.

Let us know just which combinations of manifolds, heads, carburetors, etc., that you are interested in using. I do not recall seeing an insulator stick out past the flange, but I usually do not use the insulators, just a gasket.

That blue pickup really looks nice; I'm looking for one like that. I have not a real pickup since 1966.

I am looking to keep the ones that I have which is a stock one barrel manifold with stock exhaust. My original question still is out there...is the wrong manifold on my engine now? and should the carb insulator hang over the edge?

Looking at your engine pic, I would not worry that the insulator is overextending the carb as long as you know it is centered correctly. I have never seen them melt, but break up a little from age as they harden. Yours looks new. As to the correct intake manifold: Post the cast number on it and it can be looked up for what engine/years it fits.
