Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2008 Posts: 12 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Nov 2008 Posts: 12 | fuse was blown for heater no fan, found heater motor to be frozen and it had to be replaced. I installed a new 10amp fuse in the fuse block and everything worked as it should on all speeds low, med and high. Today I used the truck and it was colder so I placed the control on high after about 10 minutes the blower quit working on high but continued to work on low or med. A few short minutes after that it quit working all together. Found new fuse was blown. I installed new fuse and the motor worked again on all 3 speeds. Can someone tell me why this blew a fuse? I don't know much about the deluxe heaters but they look fairly simple what am I missing here. I do not know why it only quit working on one speed and then stopped altogether. Someone should come along shortly and answer. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2008 Posts: 67 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Oct 2008 Posts: 67 | try a 15 amp fuse, if there is a short or excessive current draw it should blow the 15 too. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 1,552 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 1,552 | Check the fuse block for the fuse rating first, before installing a higher rated fuse, by doing so, you will avoid parlaying the problem to the blower motor or the heater resistor/heater element. Also, check the heater wiring harness to ensure there are no bare wires.
The Deluxe heater (3-speed) set-up, utilizes the same blower motor as the Thrift-Air heater (2-speed) set-up and the fan speed is controlled by a variable speed/variable resistance switch in the dash control assembly on the Deluxe heater. Have you checked the heater switch in the back of the Deluxe heater dash bezel? You may have an issue with this switch and considering the cost of a new switch, I would check here next.
I hope this information is helpful in solving your heater issue.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. I installed the proper fuse when I replaced the motor and I really am concerned about putting a higher amp fuse in than it calls for. I assume everything should operate properly on the 10 amp fuse since that is what it calls for. If it doesnt I must have some other problem somewhere else. Also doesnt putting in a higher amp fuse than it calls for create more heat and stress on the wiring? I have always heard this can "cook" your wires. | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 96 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2005 Posts: 96 | Does Anybody knows where to buy a 12v motor ?
