| | | | Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 27 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 27 | I bought a complete heater out of a 1961 chevy truck. I took it apart and tried to turn the cage fan. It was really tight so I cleaned everything up and bench tested the motor with a car battery at 12.5 amps. The motor is rated at 13. It spins but to me it seems slow. The dash switch has two positions and I only get rotation on high. I noticed the resistor heated when the switch was on low but no motor rotation. Is that what the resistor is supposed to do? Is the motor bad? Or is the switch bad? Can I repair the motor?
Is there any other advice.

A tight motor would suggest that the the bushings/bearings are dry and need oiling. That could explain why it is running slow. Dry bushings/bearings are almost a given with anything 47 years old. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 1,107 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 1,107 | what i do with mine it to tear them down. clean up the shafts and lightly oil them and clean the brushes and the part they contact and they run pretty good after that and make sure you have a good ground
