I have the standard AC Delco plugs here, but was curious if the new fandangled, multi-electroded platnum ( or irridium )or whatever new tec plugs were worth the extra cost?

In the past, when multiple electrode, off-brand plugs were sold in every auto supply in the country, most of them fouled easily and didn't improve anything- except cash flow for the seller. The major-brand multiple-electrode plugs are better, I assume, but I don't think they are worth any extra cost.
I know the argument about airplane spark plugs having multiple electrodes, but those operate under different conditions, there are two spark plugs in each cylinder, and pilots pay attention to mixture control- if they want to reach their intended destination.
I'm all for experimenting, so try them if you are curious, but don't expect any big improvement in performance. Also, frequently check the appearance of them for color and operating temperature. Perfectly clean and white could indicate that they are too hot for your engine. Dark brown or black would indicate they are too cold. These conditions assume no change in your fuel mixture or oil consumption, but are a change from what you had with the previous plugs.

I spent a lot of years in the service trade, using OEM plugs unless the customer insisted on using something else. AC for GM vehicles, Motorcraft for Ford, and Autolite for MOPAR vehicles. The only really bummer plugs I've encountered were the NipponDenso plugs that Auto Zone used to push as their bargain-priced offering. The Prestolite plugs the military BX system used to sell were a pretty close second on the "piece of crap" list back when I was patronizing Air Force auto hobby shops, but that was 30 years ago.

The car started missing and running very poorly - I pulled 2 plugs and the platinum electrode tips were nowehere to be seen.
Went back to Autolites and all was well. | | |
