My truck came with what looks like the same recirculating heater as the one in my 57. I am in the process of reassembly, and the body shop is telling me that the heater is the wrong one for a 48, and that the holes in the firewall will not line up. Is there more than one type of heater for these trucks? He mentioned a fresh air heater box....

Thanks, Mike

There were two Harrison heaters available from the factory, and an untold number of aftermarket units, since the heaters were a dealer installed accessory. There would be a recirculating heater with a round core, and a fresh air heater with a square core. The fresh air heater pulls air in through the louvers on the passenger side, and the motor sticks through the round knockout in the firewall. The recirculating heater mounts differently and doesn't use either knockout.
