The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Door Hinge Problem & Rust

Hello, after a year of working on the mechanicals on my 56 3100 w265 V8, now its time to start working on other areas. I bought new door hinge pins because it was obvious they were wore out. While unbolting the lower hinges on both sides the bolts just spun and would not come out. I ended up cutting through from under the cab in the wheel well to find that the cage that holds the nut was rusted out. Now I need to find parts to replace those and the holes I had to cut open to get to them. Any suggestion on where to get those caged nuts? Also what can I spray in those areas before patching the holes to stop the rust?

I'm not familiar with the way your '56 is built but I just welded regular nuts in place of the ones were stripped in mine. You may have to do some surgery to get to them but that's part of the fun... yea, right

As for rust treatment, I'm sold on Eastwood's rust treatment products and they just released their RUST CONVERTER in an aerosol. I'd recommend that.
