I got the radiator out last night, then removed the 4 bolts holding the fan to the waterpump pulley. The fan blades would not come off the pulley. There seems to be a steel ring pressed onto the shaft that is locking the blades onto the shaft.
How do I get the blades off - does this ring need to be cut off some how? There doesn't seem to be anyway to pull it off.
Ideas???

The pulley does not come off on a chevy but i,m not shure about the GMC although GMC engines are not babbit pounders. Try spraying some penatrating fluid on it & tap it with a hammer or wedge something in behind it. If the belt is still on you can try turning it.
