#47607 07/12/2005 5:22 PM | Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 81 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 81 | I have a one -half ton Chevy truck with a 235 c.i. six engine.This is a 62 year truck The truck also has an add on air conditioner which requires a little help in the cooling compartment. I have the original four blade fan. Did Chevy make a blade with five or six blades? The truck does not overheat but a mechanic suggested an upgrade on the blade to help cool the AC condenser as well as the truck. Any suggestions from anyone with this problem? Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Running down the road is not a problem. I tried electric pusher fans hidden in front of the raditor with a mechanical fan in back. That won't work due to a vortex between to two fans. I tried just the pusher fans without the mechanical. That didn't work due to the electric fan diameter is limited to the width of the condener. I am now trying a friends puller electrical fan with shroud with no mechanical. If it works I'll buy one. Yes, it looks like you know what but I have to have more air flow at idle and my wife says I'm not turning the A/C off waiting to get into a show.

#47612 07/13/2005 5:09 PM | Joined: Sep 2004 Posts: 148 Member | | Member Joined: Sep 2004 Posts: 148 | if y ou have a fan (or pair of them) that move enough cfm, and they are properyl installed in a shroud, you should not have any problems. many aftermarket electic fans especially the smaller ones (like 16" and under) don't move a whole lot of air.
you may not want and ford parts on your truck, but i have on on my '03 ford truck that i used to replace the mechanical fan. no problems with a/c sitting in traffic on a 105 degree day. i plan to use the same fan on my '59 chevy 36. it is a 2-speed fan that moves like 3,500 cfm on high.

They pull a lot of air at idle due to the deep curve of the blade, and straighten out and pull less air, (and make less noise) at higher speeds due to the blade's curve straightening out. Most of them fit a variety of bolt patterns due to slotted mounting holes.

I ended up having my radiator serviced-had a few leaks - and installed a larger four bladed Chevy fan-one that was about an inch longer. I will test the new fan. If that doesn't work then my next step will be installing a flex fan or try to find a six blade Chevy fan. I am trying to stay as close to original equipment as possible and the flex fans are just too pretty and shiny!! Thanks again guys!
