I have done a little research and it looks like the mount kits offered start with a 41 model. I heard possibly a ranger frame would work. anyone done either frame swap?

The 1940's model has the same cab as a 1941-1946 Chevy/GMC truck. The only difference it the front clip. Here is a company that makes a conversion kit for the 1941-1946 model trucks www.e-zchassisswaps.com the kit works on any s-10 frame but as long as it is 118 inch wheel base. But if you have a longbox truck like a 3/4 ton you can use a 122 inch s-10 frame and use the same kit.

I actually found it on one of the forums I am on, someone posted a link to a craiglist ad. I really wanted it but I have two projects I am working on aalready and I new he had been looking for one for a while. I will kick myself later for not buying it. it was on the east coast of North Carolina. a 2000 mile round trip to pick it up. he got back home last night, the truck has been stored inside for a long time and it shows. very nice condition.

I wish my 46 Chevy 3/4 ton looked that good. But there are only a hand full of them left that are in that good of condition.

what is the difference between a 40 and a 41 model? Mar K list a beds for 41 on but not for a 40. when you order running boards they fit from 40-46. I know the front fenders and grill are different, but the bed and cab seem the same

From what I've seen, the cab, the bed and rear fenders are the same. The front fenders and grille are different. GM didn't change much on the cars and trucks those years. In 1947, GM used all the remaining parts that they had in inventory from 39 through 46. In March, 1947, GM introduced the " Advanced Design" pickup. An all new body, but still used the same bed as the 40s models.

Are you going to use the kit from e-zchassisswaps on the 40?
Maybe that is what I should use. So far I found a dozen ways that don't work. Mainly because I don't know how to weld.

I'm a reseller for E-Z and can answer any questions you might have on the 41-46 kit. I mainly stick to 47-54's myself but have sold the 41-46 kit and seen it in person.

Thanks Mongo,
My donor is a 2002 S10 ZR2 4x4. My 40 was a big bolt cab and chassis. I thought I wanted my project to be a 4x4 to fill up those big bolt fenders. If I had it to do over.....anyways, has anyone used the E-Z kit on a 4x4 zr2?

John,
The E-Z Kit is designed for the 2WD chassis, the 4WD is a little different up front. There was talk about a 4X4 Kit for the 47-53 trucks but there just wasn't enough interest at the time. Let me see what I can find out. I agree the 4X4 would be nice to fill out the bigger fender holes on the big truck front clip. I've always thought it would be fun to build a giant 4X4 truck using an AD big truck front clip, and a 80's full size 4X4 pickup or burb chassis.

Thanks Mongo, I'm trying to use the complete S10 drivetrain, 4.3v6/5 speed. Just moving the motor/trans/transfer case back 4 inches is becoming more of a job than I bargined for. So far I bought two sets of motor mounts that won't work. Maybe third time will be the charm.
