Later on I am reading that the neoprene should go on the later models. Does it matter which? the wick seamed to fit. But if I'm going to get leaks, I might as well change it before I get it completely together.

You should have no problems with your late model, probably no silicone needed, just follow the instructions that come with the seal.

The neoprene seal is much nicer to deal with when the motor is in place. They will also not work well with a engine that has shims on the rear main.
