Hey guys I would like to install a Pertronix points replacemnt kit but not sure what dist. I have. The model # on points plate says 1112388, there are no other # on the outside of the dist.. The only other feature is a lubrication cup that screws in on the shaft. Pertronix says for 54 it should be model # 1112314 are they the same???

The 1112388 distributor would be correct for the '54 235, excluding powerglide-equipped engines and Corvette. The 1112314 distributor was used on the '53-'55 Corvette 235's.

The Pertronix 2005 catalog doesn't give distributor numbers for the 216/235/261 engines (at least not in the one I'm looking at online). There is, however, a footnote that excludes the 1112314 distributor, so the two units must be quite different. I would say that the Ignitor unit they specify (# 1168) should work fine on the 1112388. You could ask them, just to be sure.

DASchaefer,

Be sure to match your electrical system voltage to the Ignitor unit. They have a 6v and a 12v Ignitor unit for the '54 distributor.

As Xram stated above, the 1112314 Delco distributor was used on all Powerlide equipped 235 engines in 1954 (and, all 1954 Corvettes came equipped with a Powerglide transmission).

Also, as Xram53 stated above, the 1112388 distributor was used on all (car & truck?) non-Powerglide 1954 235s (and on 1953 235 Powerglide).

Maybe someone knows what the difference(s) is(are) between the two distributors (maybe it was the mechanical advance weights/springs, but why would this affect the Ignitor?).

Very interesting question you have raised.

Tim

I found verification that the Pertronix 1168 unit is for all '54-'62 216/235/261 EXCEPT the 1112314 dizzy. Why they include the 216 in the '54+ year range, I don't know. Not only do they have Ignitor units for 6 and 12 volts, but they also have units for + or - ground.

The 1112314 dizzy was used only on the Corvettes. The '54 PG pass. car engine used 1112396. I'm sort of guessing here (in a somewhat semi-quasi-educated way), but the one big difference between the Corvette and regular pass. car 235 distributors is that the 'Vette unit ('53-'55) may have had a tach drive.

Thanks for the info, my truck is a 1950 6400 and someone has already made it a 12 volt. I found the block #s and found it to be a 1954 engine. Iam assuming that since the - battery terminal is going to the frame that make it a neg ground system. Thanks again for the info and will let you now how it turns out.
