has anyone seen or know where to obtain the simple secondary safety hood latch spring?
Not the main pop-up hood spring
but the one that is located within the safety hood latch (not main) to keep it in a latched position.

That's a junk yard item. Or maybe a swap meet item. What year is the Hood and truck? Are you referring to the secondary safety latch assembly on the hood? Or just the small spring that keeps tension on it? If you are referring to '47-'54 I might have both in my inventory. Send me a private email. [email protected]

Hey! I'm looking for just that spring myself. Can't find one anywhere. I'm almost to the point of buying the whole darn top portion of a donor truck just for the spring. Any extras laying around?

Sorry guys - the secondary hood latch springs that I have are so rusty and pitted that wouldn't even give them away. It also requires a little bit of work to remove them from the hood. You have to drill out the rivits ,that the latch pivots on,in order to remove and then replace the springs. I checked with Chev's of the 40's and they don't have them. You would think that one of the aftermarket parts guys would have them. So, good luck in the hunt.

For those who's has broken.........

drill out that cheap rivit and use a 1/4'' x 1.5'' bolt & nyloc ...
Try your local True Value's Hardware Store, torsion spring #27U, .... about 90cents
you might (to make it easier) remove the big spring and main hold down pin/bolt,
Put it (27u) in a vice and pinch it a little tighter. another tweek wider, & fit
