I would like to how to tell if the oil pump needs replacement. The clearance between the gear teeth at the center position is .007 and the clearance between the gears and the case sides is about .003. I would like to run this engine a loooooong time before next rebuild, so it might make sense to replace the pump just in case, but I have found that slightly worn originals are often better than repros. Also wondering if anyone has a good recipe for carbon deposit removal. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 2,031 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 2,031 | just replace it anyway when you rebuild a motor, replace the oil pump .
