How much would it cost to build a 302 with a 12 port head. all new engine parts maybe some carbs or webers. I want to drive it on the street. I have talked to some diehard inliners at bonneville that tell me i am crazy for wanting a 12 port 6 for the road as a daily driver.is this true. I want to use a t-5 and a older hallibrand quickchange rear end. I don't build motors my dad usualy builds mine. So i don't know alot about motors.

Let's see.... 12 port head, all new internals, machine work, head parts, mainfolds, carbs, linkage, fuel pumps and lines, misc, etc.....
(chaching, chaching, chaching, (recognize the sound?)comes to a grand total of, uh, let's see...uh..OK $12000. How's that strike ya? I might even be low.

...better pay attention to those Bonny guys...they know thier stuff. Ask your Dad if he'd even let you have a motor like that for the street. A rule of thumb for these full blown race engines is if you have to ask then you can't afford it. :rolleyes:

are ther 12 port head engines that aren't really race engines. my dad does not decide what i do for about 20 years now.But i am sure he would more than be happy to help build it. I work in an industrie that is fueled by eye candy weither subtle or rediculas it is what gets your name out ther just watch an episod of rides. I am 23 and want my own hotrod shop one day but that will not happen if i don't get something out there that can turn heads and a 12 port head on a 6 cylinder with zommies out one side and 6 webers on the other on a pro built 40 chevy truck fenderless hot rod is going to do that.

How much power do ya want and how much can you afford?
I built a 302 during the winter,a nice street engine,stock head,nice valve work but no actual porting,forged pistons,custom ground cam all the usual stuff.This is not a radical engine,has nice sound to the idle and still pulls strong from 1000 rpm.Cost me 3200 bucks for parts and machining,and I did all the assembly,built headers from scratch etc.Probably 250 or so HP,I don't really know for sure,it sure pulls my 37 Chevy pu scarey fast.
700 bucks spent on the stock head might get 50 more higher rpm HP.The 12 port head ,properly set up might go for 350 plus HP,and yes it might cost 8-10 thousand bucks to get there all together.
If you got the cash,go for it.

how long would my 8-10 thousand engine last under the stress of a 23 year old speed freak that cant live without speed. 10 grand isn't bad if it lastes a while.

Not long. Since you are planning on running a T5 behind that motor, your second gear and OD won't last long due to the torque, so maybe the engine will last longer than if you put a real transmission behind it. Since you've got all that cash to spend, try a richmond or one of those OD gearsets for a close ratio muncie (these are really cool).

Good luck in your rod shop endeavor, sounds like its time to start learning. Maybe building a mild motor with your dad is a good start.

Don't forget about cooling, brakes and suspension with that kind of power.

IMO, Eye Candy isn't everything, a good, reliable, quality product is sought after by many. Keeps me busy enough.

If eye candy is everything, buy a howard intake manifold, and put 5 stromberg 97 carbs on it. Classic performance for GMC Inline 6's. You have to start somewhere, but remember, as Houston54 once said, "the devil is in the detail". Good Luck

Does any one have pics of 12 port sixies on a street car or truck.

How much cooling do i need. I want to use a strait axle is this possible with a engine like this in a car that is going to be a daily driver.
