Anyone know of a source for the king pin thrust bearings for a 49-54 front end. I bought a king pin set from Classic parts and it has one bad bearing. I contacted them and no help other than to recommend I buy a new kit!as they don't have individual pieces. I called and talked to the manufacturer of the kit - Thayer bearing Co and their product manager Kevin was helpful but stated they had no reports of bad bearings and in that they only sell the kits wholesale to other suppliers he was unable to offer any help other than stating he would sample some of the kits for like problems and let me know what he finds. - no response to date. He was reluctant to tell me who else they wholesale to. Anyway, anyone know where I can get a single thrust bearing for my king pin set?

Is the thrust bearing obviously defective when you look at it. As I recall, the bearing is two formed halves, one mashed and formed over the other. Sometimes when you try to hold the bottom, or inner race and rotate the outer formed piece, they are jerky and hard to turn.

I think it is fine this way. It's far from a precision bearing and it only turns a total 80&deg or so.

The important feature would be the hardness of the balls and the temper of the race area.

I remember having thrust bearings I thought were funky for this very reason. They were fine. If this isn't your problem, this post will self destruct in 3 minutes. Good luck.

Classic Parts should honor your word and take the set back and replace it. Did you pay with credit card? If so, dispute the charges if its not too late.
You shouldnt have to be calling to the orig. supplier to remedy this. Wheres the customer service?????????
