The 292 is actually very close to the same size as the 235 because it uses thin wall castings. The one big difference between the 292 and most other Chevy 6s is that the 292 has staggered motor mounts. The one on the passenger's side is farther forward that the one on the driver's side. Not such a big deal since you will probably be putting in new motor mounts anyway. (To get the engine to fit correctly.)
I think that the 292 is a good swap since it doesn't the weaknesses of the 230/250, and it has the same torque rating as a 350.
