Any sure fire way to tell a 216 from a 235? I am looking at a 1949 2 ton Load master and the owner is not sure if it has the 235 or the 216. I'm pretty sure that the 6400 Load master came standard with the upgrade 235, but the owner is thinking that it's had a transplant engine and is not sure of the size. I'll bet this is not the first time someone has had this question. Thanks Dave

Dave,

It is not easy to tell a 1949 216 from a 1949 235.

The block casting number and the head casting number are good ways to tell what you have. There are also casting dates on the block and head but I am not certain of the locations for pre-54 216s and 235s.

Tim
