Thought I would trial fit the power master brake setup to the frame. First I had to find two short 7/16" fine thread bolts, which resulted in a trip to the local hardware store (not Lowes or Ho-D-Po). They didn't have Grade 8, these Grade 5's probably will work, but I will probably order Grade 8's from McMaster's or Aircraft Spruce. Nothing like having some brake component fail, the only thing worse is a steering piece.

I can't recall the vendor I bought the kit from, but the stuff is marked from MBM, although I know this didn't come from them directly. At any rate, no instructions. I believe this to be a fairly generic kit that is probably made by 1 or 2 sources and resold by everyone else.

I do have a picture from a catalog, so I go ahead and fit it together to see what it looks like.

It looks pretty cool, the first new part on the old truck, and starting to turn the corner from disassembly to assembly...

At any rate, tonight I dug the old forged brake arm out of the parts bin, remove it from the old master cyl, clean it up a bit (covered in grime) and tried everything out. In general, it looks like it would work to me.

(Note I have not drilled out the frame for the front brace or two rear additional mount-to-frame bolts.)

Two questions:

1. It looks like I need to grind some off the bottom of the old forged brake arm to give the bolt that goes thru the spherical bearing some room to tighten up. See this pic:

2. There was a ferrule (spacer) included in the kit. ID is 7/16", length is 1/2". Anyone know where this puppy goes? Picture of it is here:

Any help is appreciated. I wanted to get the master cylinder on as when I get my front end welded in and start to fit the motor and transmission mounts, I wanted to see how close the transmission and power booster were, hoping they don't collide and I have to go to firewall mount or hydro-booster.

Thanks!

R-Bo: I'm not sure about the space as I don't really know what kind of set up your running.....BUT, if your using the "origianl" master cylinder then the spacer will go where the clutch would normally go IF your set up is like a 52/53.....that is if your going automatic.
I may be all wrong here. Just GUESSING.

Alvin,

I am using modern dual master cylinder and this is a 59 Task Force truck, if that helps.

No problem, I think I have figured out where the spacer goes. I think it goes on the bolt that connects the brake rod with the spherical bearing to the pedal. Looks like you put the bolt thru the spherical bearing, then the spacer, then the pedal connection, then the nut.

Still trying to confirm this is the way to do it, but I think I am getting close to the answer on it.
