Planned on putting rings in my 46 burb and going over the head. Used the casting numbers on the engine (3835309) to order my rings. I know 48 & 49 #s. When I opened the package the 2 pressure rings were different sizes. The rings on my piston are the same size, and the same size as the largest of the 2 in the box. Is the year the difference. I'm lost as I don't want to order something wrong again (at $50 or $60 a pop). Taking the head to the machine shop tomorrow and will show them. Maybe they can give me some answers. Thought you folks might have some insight

The 235 rings changed a couple of times throughout the years. For '41-'49, both compression rings were 1/8". For '50-'53, the upper compression ring changed to 3/32". For '54-'63, both compression rings were 3/32". All oil rings were 3/16".

Nowadays its harder to find the ring sets for the earlier 235's with the two 1/8" comp. rings, and many vendors only list one set for '41-'63. But they are out there. If you can't find them at your FLAPS, Hastings Manufacturing (hastingsmfg.com) and Deves Piston Rings (deves.com) both list the earlier sets.
