You may need to drill holes in the lip of the front mount plate. You will need to shorten the '58-62 water pump or use an adapter and your old water pump. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 442 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 442 | so a '58 will fit on the '50 frame? easier to find a later 235 than a mid '50s nowadays! | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | As long as you do what Cletis describes above, yes, a 1958 235 will fit the 1950 frame. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 442 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 442 | Which years did they use the side mounts, located about the middle of the lower block? | | | | | Joined: Oct 2007 Posts: 388 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2007 Posts: 388 | bluedot,
I have put 58 235 in 52 AD, use your orignial bellhouse and clutch and all, you can buy a short water pump from patricks and you are all set.

Have a read of the 235 swap in the Tech Tips. | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 | In my experience, the side mount engines still have the lip for the older style center mount. You just have to drill the holes and square them with a file. The exception to this is the GMC side mount engines. No lip on them. You have to replace the plate. | | |
