For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 211 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 211 | I have a 1968 250 CI. Just fit on the new compression rings and got the pistons back on the crankshaft. Can any one give me torque specs and patterns for my head bolts, and do you know if the nuts for my piston rod bearings have to be torqued? Also, we had to take off the intake/exhaust manifold, so i had to take off the carb with it. I had to undo some wires and springs, if i put them back in the same place, will my floats get messed up or anything? | | | | | Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 230 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 230 | head bolts 95 rods 35 mains 65 ,i e-mailed a picture of tightening sequence for cylinder head .you should not have a problem with the carburetor | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 841 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 841 | you prob already know this but it's a good idea to tighten each rod nut alternating side to side and increasing every 10 lbs till you get up to final torqe. are you changing the rod bearings as well? the manifolds are suposed to be torqed as well and the outside two are a little less. good luck | | | | | Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 211 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 211 | I guess that's what they're called. 2 semi-circle sheets of metal on the bottom of the piston that rotate around the crankshaft. They're bearing of some sort, but im not sure which, and yes i replaced them. A lot of people said it was my carburetor causing the problem (had gas in my oil pan, truck was diesling after i shut it off and it smelled like gas really bad), but when about one cup's worth of antifreeze got into my rear cylinder when i pulled the head off...and it had seeped past the piston after 5 minutes, we figured i was due for a ring job. You think that's sufficient evidence?
And by the way old dog, got your e-mail and the pic. I can see it fine, really do appreciate it man. Do you think you could find the same specs for the manifolds? Thanks again | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 272 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 272 | 1965 Chevy c 10,
