Is there any way of telling what the gear ratio is without opening up the diff? It is a 1966 C-10 long bed 2WD original motor was a 283 with a 4 speed.

Thanks

2 Ways

1.) you can jack the rear up and count the revs of the pinion and the axle and divide

2.)Check the axle code. It's located on the passenger side of the axle toward the front of the truck about 3 " from the differential. It should be a 2 letter code begginig with H or J. Then go Here to decode. Good luck.
