Attention all firetruck owners -- How about sending me a GOOD high resolution picture of your truck for a 2009 Stovebolt Vol. Fire Dept. calendar??

Doesn't have to be a spiffy truck, just a good picture!

Specific specs on the image:

300 ppi, 12 inches wide by 8 inches high. Give me a little room on the sides (don't crop the bumper close to the edge of the image).

send to editor@stovebolt.com and mark it as "firebolt calendar submission"

Be sure you include a description of the truck (ex: "1965 GMC Darley 1.5-ton pumper tanker with 500 gpm Darley Champion pump, 1,000 gallon tank, deck gun, Federal 2Q siren, Federal Beaconray M17 beacon")

Thanks,
John

Ed,

I plan on laying out the calendars the week of the 24th (November) so go take a nice picture -- big, bold and beautiful -- and get it to me before then. I plan on updating my truck's portrait when I gussie her up for the Veteran's day parade here.

Here are some scans of 1940, 1941 and 1942 Fire Apparatus from books called Chevrolet Directory, Special Equiptment. Note on scan one (1) the W.S. Darley and Co., Chicago Turo F.D Truck. I know its not a Chevy, but OMG! Enjoy gentleman.

Hey John,
I will send a digital picture of the 1958 Chevrolet in the gallery. I hope you can get something usable from it.
We had it home from the repair shop but was not satisfied so we took it back. Hopefully we will get it back again this week.

Larry -- Thanks -- That 58 Oren from the Greenbrier would be excellent in the calendar. I need the picture big and hi-rez (the finished page will be 17.5 inches by 11.5 inches) so if you send it at 300 dpi and about 8 inches wide, I can work with that. Be sure to leave a little space in the image all the way around the truck.

John Boy -- Thanks but I can't use any of those images. Any chance you can get the truck out for a shot with an uncluttered background?

Bill -- Already had a good picture of your truck. Do you own that truck or is it the property of the Thalia Fire Museum?

After I get Larry's image, I'll only need 4 more!

Thanks all

John

Hello John
Sorry, I'm as dumb as a rock when it comes to photography. The image I sent is from a 5 mega-pixel camera. It shows 1.29 MB and 2062 X 1303. It is a clear 8 X 12 picture at 40% on my screen. When I blow it up on my screen to 100% it is very large and very clear. Is my computer downgrading this file to send it over the internet? Is it still coming in at 1.29 MB?
Larry

By right clicking the image I get picture information and it shows that my images are 72 dpi. I will see if I can get a better picture.
Larry

Mike B -- Got the image and it is great -- Thanks.

Bill -- Cool. I'll change the caption for your page.

John Boy -- That's okay -- Get'er done and you'll make a great addition for the next one!

Larry -- Yeah -- if you can send the image just as it comes from the camera, that would be outstanding and very useable. Maybe you have a setting in your software that downsizes the image during the downloading process? Do you use a program to get the images off the camera or can you just access the camera like it's just another drive on your computer via a USB connection? Believe me, I'm not that far ahead of you in figuring this stuff out!

Thanks,
John

John, our firetruck will be ready to bring home monday. I will take a picture and send it that day. I have found a menu on my camera to change the image size from 640x480 to 2272x1704 Hopefully that will give a better pic. I will send it from computer without letting paintshop pro open it. I do hope this is not running you too late but if it is I understand.

John, we are supposed to go for our truck Monday weather permitting. I have found a way to change image size from 640X480 to 2272 X 1708. Hopefully that will make a good picture. Will send it right off the camera.

Larry -- Cool! You're not too late. I don't have 12 fire trucks yet, any way.

John, finally took pictures today and when I tried to send them It failed because the file was too big. The file size comes up at 11.1 MB as compared to the other at 1.3 MB. Boy, I have learned a lot about cameras but have no idea what I have learned! headscratch

Larry, if you can get it down to about 3 MB, it should go through okay.

Thanks for trying!

By the way, we've just created a forum in the Grassy Knoll for Firebolts -- y'all stop in and have a chat!
