I'm new to the group. I've been reading the forum for a few month's and you seem to have a lot of good information and discussions so I decided to join.
I acquired a 41 3/4 ton last summer from someone who did a "partial amateur restoration" and just got it driveable this month, (still no muffler but it's fun without it). The heater is not installed and I don't plan to install it for now. The heater connections on the pump and head are plugged. If I run without the heater which serves as a by-pass does anyone know if it will do any damage to the pump?

You can either plug the holes on the pump or do as Mechainiac suggested, run a hose from one hole to the other (or, on a 261 pump, a combination of the two).
Hey Classic Finn,
Just in case Stovebolters did not see another of your posts regarding octane ratings for petrol, or did not do the calculations. How about doing some conversions for us and let us know your cost of Petrol per US gallon (in US dollars). I lived in Sotland for a while and the cost of Petrol in Europe is eye-opening to an american (USA, Canadian, and Mexican).
Did you find a conversion for US octane ratings compared to Finnish octane ratings (is there an EU standard rating technique?)?

For Our Fellow Stovebolters about the Octanes,
But gas prices are very high. In the Euro monetary unit its 1.10 per litre. the Euro is fairly balanced with the USD at the moment.
But in Dollars thats 1.00 to 1.50 USD per Gallon. Theres aproximately 4 litres to 1 US Gallon.
The Imperial Gallon is a little larger thats used in England. So thats why as an American Classic owner its nice to enjoy riding when you get your "PayCheck" LOL! Or a weekend cruise with a lot of friends!!!!!to pay for the gas.

Should read 1.00 to 1,50 a Liter= 4$ a gallon.
In Montreal, we scream and shout when prices hit 82c CDN (about 53c USD) a liter. Still cheap at 2$ a gallon.
My 1946 Whizzer H does 125 miles a gallon...
Can anybody beat that?

Sure wish I could enjoy this in the States. Or Canada. Your so lucky. Here we say at the gas stations for American Cars that Please Do shut the engine off before filling the gas tanks!
