Are any of you pro mechainics familiar with the late model diesel powered medium duty trucks that use a 5 or 6 speed manual transmission? I need help selecting one to use behind a 5.9 Cummins.I have been through the junk Getrag 5 speeds and the automatics with the trick converters. If this the wrong kind of question for this forum would someone mail me and tell me where to look.Thank you for taking your time......J.D.

You probably want a NV4500 transmission. That's what comes behind the stock 5.9 Cummins now, after the Getrag was used a couple of years. They found out pretty quick that the Getrag was no match for the 5.9 Cummins, and switched to the NV4500. But be forwarned, its a VERY popular transmission, and it's hard to find one USED for less than $1500. New ones will set you back $2500. Advanced Adapters sells a kit to swap from the Getrag to the NV4500, and it includes the transmission. It ain't cheap, but it comes with everything you need. Here's their website:

Yes, this is what is in the new trucks now. It is a 5 speed with overdrive 5th gear. The overdrive ratio is .70, or a 30 % overdrive
