#46350 06/16/2005 3:55 PM | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 1,107 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 1,107 | i have a 51 gmc with a 248. the exhaust manifold was cracked. i got a "good " one out of salvage. when i match it up to the intake there is a 3/16" difference in length in the flanges with the intake being the shorter of the two. the one i got is from a later year because there was no tab on the intake for the horn
my fist idea was to have it machine so that they are the same. then the idea of increasing the gasket thickness for the intake to take up the space in place of machining. i have access to 1/8 " gasket material for high press and temp steam service
i was lucky to find this exhaust manifold an hour and a half after i realized that the one on the 248 was cracked. my fears are sending it out the good one and having in destroyed. finding another one as fast as the first will most likely prove difficult.
what do you stovebolters think of this mind set. and what would you do if faced wuth this set back? | | |
