just finished rebuilding the carb on my 36 207 and it fire up great then i turned it off so i could put my toe board and floor board back in so i could test drive it and make some adjustments but when i press down on the footstarter there is nothing. no turning over no noise at all. this truck has turned over everytime since ive had it until now. all baterry connections are fine even if they werent it would atleast crank over. anyone know what it is , what finally gave out after all these years?

The starter drive might be stuck in the flywheel. Put the transmission in gear and rock the truck forward and back.

If not, I would use a pair of jumper cables between the battery + to starter and battery - to engine(ground).

This might seem to obvious, but could the floor board or toe board be holding the linkage from mashing all the way down and allowing the thing to operate.

That is possible, Open the hood and reach down to the starter and try pressing the starter button by hand, & see if the starter cranks over.

I wouldn't put it past the battery cables. My truck started fine all the time until one day it just turned over once and then quit. The battery cable had lost connection at one end.

i tried pressing stater button manually and checking connections, rocking it back and forth but it still wouldnt start. then i went back later and it started, i drove it around the block, parked it and it wont turn over again.HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM?

Sounds like you have an open circuit in the cables/terminals. Did you try the jumper cable trick?

no, but i took off the starter button cleaned the copper contacts and the baterry cable terminal at starter button and now it starts. So i probably did underestimate the cable.That would suit me just fine too. thanks guys
