My dad and I are getting a 1960 GMC with what the owner says is a 327 V-6. I have found 305 and larger V-6 info but not 327 info is this a real engine or is the owner just confused.?????

See if it has an ID plate. The engine size should be on it. As you might already know, the 6066 GMC guy (Jolly Goodfellow) has a website with lots of information on these trucks.

if it's a v6 it's not a 327, if it's a v8 it may be a 327, but GMC didn't put it there

We figured that it wasnt a 327 but hey you never know what you will find. Once we get the truck here we will look for the plate.

Hold on there sonny, I just looked at your profile, you have listed ~ 1960 GMC (parts) 1964 chevy (project) ~ Your going to find that there are "NOT" too many parts on the GMC you can use on the Chevy, if your builting a 64 Chvey your going to want 64-66 chevy trucks for parts.

There are way too many differances to list here.

The stock & only engine offered in GMC pickups in 1960 was the 305 V6. If it does turn out to have a 327 V* then it's a transplant.

Were not going for any sheetmetal parts just the steeringcolum and rear suspension.

The GMC steering colum is not the same, the turn swith is different and no one makes it. you can get that part for a Chevy Truck, but not GMC.

Also the rear suspension was changed from the Torsion bars days, (1960-62) on the mater model trucks, so you best check it out good to see if it will even work. BTW GMC switched to leaf springs on the rear end of their truck in 1963. You may need to find a 63-66 Chevy truck for rear suspension parts. GMC also used a different rear axle then Chevy and the brakes are harder to find, as they are heaveir then Chevy and most parts stores only have the numbers for the Chevy trucks.

The really on parts you can use are some of the front end sheet metal parts.......

the rear setup is coils just like the chevy which was the main reason and if the colum is different and a few other items are then it really isnt an issue. since were not going for a completly restored truck it doesnt matter.

Considering the fact that it is a hundred dollar rotted out farm truck, if i cant use some parts thats fine. And thanks for the help on the engine ID.

GMC V6 engines started at 305 the next larger engine is 351 then 378 and a 401.the engine I.D.is at the right front of the block just in front of the head my 63 is a 305 E it will be clearly marked unless the block has had the deck surfaced in the past
