I hooked up my kickdown cable on my 350/TH350 combo & it worked great for a couple days & know it wont kickdown. I re-adjusted it twice & it still wont work. I am having some shifter cable probs(Unimatic & the cable is fraying) & I suspect that it my not be shifting to accurate even thought it shifts up fine..could this maybe have something to do with it?

If the adjustment of the cable isn't long enough, then it will pull too far and get lodged in the tube of the kickdown cable...does it not shift back to first when you come to a stop. ALWAYS use GM kickdown and shift cables if you can. What kind of carb do you have? Most manufacturers sell the correct linkage/bracket combos. Later

When I unhook the cable I can pull on the end & feel the lever acuating on the transmission. It seems to be moving freely without catching on the tube. I have an Edelbrock carb & I believe they are set up for GM kickdown applications. I used the bracket for my old Qjet to hold the cable housing. This is also an ATP brand cable where you release the adjustment clip, apply the carb to full throttle & then push the clip back in & its supposed to be set...maybe this is not working right??

Make sure you are not pulling the cable too far at WOT. They can get stuck. There is a passageway in the valve body that actuates the "kick down" and maybe you have some dirt in there. I'm thinking it could be a governer issue. At WOT what is your upshift point? Should be at least 4000+ RPM. When all else fails maybe stop by the tranny shop, those guys will normally give out a little free advice. Godd luck.

I got my new shifter cable today, installed it & my kick-down works perfect again. Apparently the split cable that was causing the inaccurate shifting was not putting the linkage all the way into gear..this must affect the kick-down function...thanks again for the info guys!!
