Guys you have save me lots of work by reading your posts. And I thank you all. So heres the scope, I have been trying to get my 235 to pump oil to the valve train and no matter what I do I cant seem to get any oil up there. I read that the 55-62 235 blocks pass oil through the oil passage intergrated in the casting located in the pushrod area. And that when a 53 cylinder head is used there is a special head bolt used to allow oil to pass. I have checked all my head bolts and I dont have that special head bolt. So the first problem to solve is where can I get that Special Head Bolt? SO today I decided to take that head bolt out and spin the oil pump with my drill. Still no oil. The valve train is removed, the oil connector port is open, and when I spin my oil pump I get 50lbs on my oil guage. PLEASE HELP

Some information about the special bolt is at the bottom of this page.

Click on the link about the bolt and it will bring back to a Stovebolt.com posting.

tclederman's link explains it well, except it seems to say there is a difference in the head which there is not.

What year engine are you working on? It may be missing the supply tube under the side cover.

I am probably wrong, but I thought that year engine had no supply tube. The block itself was cast with supply routes that fed the center oiler from both front and rear cam bearings. This route took it though a drilled orifice that is situated beneath the head bolt.

Guys, thanks for all the information, My OCD kicked in about an hour ago and I tore it down. Low and behold what did I find but the wrong lifters in it. so I was not passing any oil past that first lifter. So now Im in the market for a set of correct lifters for a 60-62 235. I now know why I had the rocker shafts wear out
