has anybody out there in boltland heard of converting stock gearing box that uses grease to use steering fluid. I heard about this as one of those upgrades without changing appearance but i didnt get any info on how to go about it. Mine is a 36 and that is the same year i heard this mentioned about. Thank you eek

I can't really see any advantage of putting "steering fluid" in an early box. Originally most of the boxes had 90wt gear oil in them but got packed with grease when they leaked the gear oil out as fast as you could put it in.

They make a special lube for the old boxes. However, they should be cleaned and resealed. I personally put gear lube in mine. It worked for 50 or more years.
