For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 24 Member | | Member Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 24 | Hi new here. looking to find info on the tranny and rearend that someone has put in my 52 GMC. the numbers on the tranny are con5 then under that 10J231 under that GM under that 591907. It is behind a '58 235. They have changed the rearend trying to figure the gear ratio by turning the wheel the driveline turns 3 7/8 with to full turns of the rear wheel.
thank you. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2001 Posts: 316 Member | | Member Joined: Mar 2001 Posts: 316 | Sounds like your trans is an SM-420. Reverse is to the left and back towards the seat, right? Rear axle sounds like 3.90 gears. You did block the wheel that wasn't being rotated while counting ? This could throw you off on your count if it's an open differential.
