If you have it rebuild make sure they put new bushings in. (Teflon Bushings) in. and also have new shafts put in if they are worn a good machine shop can make new ones or build them up and then machine down. So many shops just call a rebuild a gasket set with needles and seats,checkball and pistonpump assy.etc. You need to get the bushings done to prevent sloppy throttle responce and leakage same goes for the choke shaft. You will be suprised how much better it will idle down and run. I am asumming it is a single or a two barrel carb. If it is a four Barrel I would get a Edlebrock 600 CFM. replacement for it. This is a upgraded version. The carb would have to be in pertty bad shape not to be rebuilt. Which ever way you go reman or new you can still get the carbs. from GM. or Napa, Kragen, Checker, etc.
