i have a 36 highcab and i finally found some old park brake cables and bought a new handle spring because the old one was gone. the question is how does the spring install? i installed it to my inclination but and it works ok but it doesnt seem right. i'm sure these handles are the same for many years so if anybody out there has the time and feels like helping out a word or better yet picture would really help. i'm still having trouble figuring out how to post a picture here. thank fellas.

No idea if this helps or not, but I have just dissasembled the park brake on my 41 ton and a half for cleaning and painting. On mine, the main lever is oriented so that the bend at the top part (the handle part) tilts forward. The silver, spring-mounted release lever is on the rear, or seat side of the handle. the spring mounts with the short end poked through the hole in the neck of the handle, with the long end inside the spoon of the release lever, pointed upward on the underside.

OK . . . if I didn't know what I was talking about, I wouldn't know what I was talking about!

This may be COMPLETELY different from a smaller and/or earlier truck - no idea. Does this help at all?!?

thanks, thats what i did on mine i just cant help but second guess myself, and it doesnt seem to have very much spring tension. thanks again(did i type slow enough?)

Yep, I could almost make out every second word!!!

I can't think of a reason not to remove the spring, hold it in a vise and "stretch" it to give it more tension. Barring that, new springs are pretty cheap, I'm guessing, from Jim Carter's or Chevs of the 40s.

If I take my brain with me next time I'm with my truck, I'll remember to take a picture for reference.
