Hey all, my inline 250 is going to Alaska to go in a boat, som my project truck will be getting a 350, as that is what came in a donor truck. Problem is that the 350 came with an auto, and my project is a 4 spd. Will the 250 flywheel bolt up to the 350 block, and work with the 350 stater? Or does anyone know what combination of parts I can use to achieve my final combination???
Thanks for the help, Garry K in Port Orchard, WA

If the flywheel is the same diameter it will work.

If you have a 11 inch (168 tooth) flywheel then you need the staggered bolt starter part number 3510 or if it's 10 inch then you need the straight across bolt pattern or 3664(I think) AHHH the beauty of Chevrolet interchange.

WOW!! Thanks Bowtie!!! So if I count the 250's flywheel and it's a 168 tooth, it'll bolt up, and I just need a "staggered starter"? ANd if it is the smaller (158??) it takes the straight?? This would be great to find out I already have most of the parts on hand!!
Thanks again, Garry K

The smaller flywheel has 153 teeth and uses the "straight across" bolt pattern starter. This is pretty much constant for I6 (194, 230, 250 and 292) and smallblock "twin-four" motors.

This has been a handy thing to know, specially since I had to juggle flywheels, clutches, bellhousings and starters in my 63 Nova before I got a combination that would work. (The Chevy II bellhousing is a strange beast all unto itself.)

I'm not positive about the I6 motors, but not all V8s are drilled and tapped to accept both bolt patterns of starters. In this case, some of the hi-torque mini-starters will work. I haven't found any pattern to why some are drilled and some not.

It's not particularly hard to drill and tap the missing mounting hole.

62 on back were not drilled for the staggard mounting bolts. 63 up were. smile
