Does anyone know which Carter YF carb is appropriate for a '54 261? I don't want to underpower it.

I have a YF2100 on my 235 now, if I put it on the 261 would that cause it to run lean?

Thanks
Steve

Lean? Not for the light load cruise mixture, but in low vacuum situations when the power valve opens,it may not provide a rich enough mixture for sustained full throttle operation. Carbs respond to air flow, in theory the carb doesn't care what size the engine is.Heavy truck carbs generally have richer jetting to accomodate constant full throttle, full load operation. The 261's came with a Rochester B carb slightly larger in size than a 235 type, a 1-9/16 throttle bore. The carb you have should work ok for casual driving, but will limit the power somewhat.

A.M.C. used a YF on their 258 6 cylinder in the very early 1970's. You might look at one of those. Air flow should be sufficient for the 261. As we had smog emission in the early 1970's some recalibration might be necessary.

Jon.

Good carburetion is fuelish hot air
The most expensive carburetor is the wrong one you attempt to modify.
