Hello All,

New to the forum here and this past weekend I just picked up a 1957 Chevy 5100. I had my eye on this truck for months visiting it every time I went to my wife's parents house out in middle of nowhere Kansas. Finally got ahold of the farmer, thanks Father in Law, struck a deal and picked it up. It is an old grain truck minus the grain bed, complete and looking all original. Rust damage is limited to a few holes on the lower rear of the drivers side of the cab, some dents and dings but a pretty darn solid truck. 283, 4speed, 2 speed axle. Wow she rides rough.

Are there any parts out there for these trucks? Specifically I need good Drivers side door hinges, battery tray and holddown, hood latch mechanism, a and chrome hood emblem. The bungies holding the hood shut have to go.

If it is a regular cab, not a low cab forward, all the stuff you mention is the same with a pickup and are readily available. And yes, they do ride rough.

I'm working on a link to pictures and it is a LCF not a regular cab.

A 5100 is the shortest wheelbase of the Medium Duty LCF's. The other two wheelbase series designations are the 5400 medium wheelbase, & the 5700 long wheelbase. The '55-'59 LCF's were neat trucks. Are there any sources of new or reproduction parts for these trucks or should i be looking for used?

Any parts specific to just the LCF's are going to be hard to find and are not in reproduction. Interior parts and glass will be the same as the pickup's.

Door hinges are not the same as the conventional cab, if they are just worn out you can buy new pins and bushings and rebuild them.

The hood embelem is also not the same, the LCF's have less Vee to the front of the hood making the emblem flatter.

Do you know if the hood latch mechanism is the same as a conventional pickup. The bungies got to go on the big truck.

ALso, where should the VIN plate be on the truck?

Ryan,

Hood latches are not the same as pickups.

The vin plate should be on the drivers door hinge post. It is also stamped on top of the frame rail, drivers side near the steering box.

Well truck is rewired, carb overhauled, heater hoses replaced, and getting ready for the 200 mile journey back to KC. I am thinking in 2 weeks or so weather permitting. Just waiting on tires at this point, bought 2 but still need 4 for the back. Also have to greese the chassis and we are set I hope...

Sounds like a "winner". Back when I sold my '56 Chevy 5700 series LCF, the new owner, & a buddy of his, hitch hiked to North Carolina, from Marthas Vineyard Mass., & drove the truck home, with no problems.

Nice looking truck Teamja2, my hood latch didnt work on my 55' 6400 but after some penetrant and use it started working again. My truck sat for 19 years but none of the parts have turned out to be broken (except the entire brake system). They built em right for heavy use back then. Best of luck to you on your trip. I would advise checking out the gas tank for rust as that made mine very unreliable, though an easy fix.
