I have a 1949 Chevy 1/2 ton with a three speed trans which was emptied prior to rebuilding the engine. Shop manual says the trans capacity is 1.5 pints SAE90. Trans has one large drain plug at the bottom but two filler plugs on the side of the housing. One fill plug is closest to the clutch and the second fill plug is closer to the universal joint. Not knowing very much about transmissions I am wondering....

1. Is SAE90 correct? Wouldn't 90wt gear oil be better? I think the manual is wrong. Comments?
2. Does the 1.5 pints of lube go into the filler closest to the clutch? I think yes but just need confirmation.
3. I'm assuming that the back most filler plug is for lubricating the universal joint bearings. That's what the shop manual indicates. However, it does not say what to lube with. Should this be a grease lube, gear oil or other type lube?

Please enlighten me - I'm feeling really lost on this one!

You put the oil in the front hole. The plug at the rear has a pin sticking out of it that locks the rear bushing support in place.

SAE90 is 90wt gear oil. The Ujoint is lubed by the trans oil.
