The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Doors Help!!! Door won't close.

I just got done putting on one of the pieces to my exhaust and started the truck up to see if it worked. But after I shut it off and tried to shut the door, it wouldn't latch. It goes in and makes the noise, but just roles back out after you let go off it. I don't know why it is doing this. Any ideas?

Never mind. It wouldn't latch because the hood wasn't shut. My mom said that "she wanted her mouth closed."

Hey J. I hate to tell you this but if the lights come on when you close the hood or the toilet flushes when you turn on the water in the sink, then you got a real problem!

I hope you just kidding about the hood Jordan; cuz that surly wouldn't have anything to do with your door latch. It sounds like the latch is just in need of some lubrication. If you haven’t already given it a good soaking with some spray solvent like PB Blaster, Kroil or WD-40 then do that first and after it evaporates get as much white grease (lithium grease) as you can packed into the latch. If you continue to have problems with it latching you can remove it with the window still in the truck and clean it up real good and lube it with white grease. It's a real bear to get out but with some patience turning it this way and that it will come out thru the inspection cover.

Well, Denny and Czechman, I don't know what the problem was last night, but it seems fine now, even if the hood isn't shut. I do need to lubricate the latches. Would the grease in a grease gun work fine? Czechman, the truck is coming along fine, I am hoping to get the metal work and brakes done sometime soon.

The grease in your grease gun wont help, so far you have been derusting an loosin up stuck rusty parts with PB & WD now ya need to lube them critters now they are freed up..get a spray can of lithium grease (white grease) at your local FLAPS or Walmart in the vehicle section (super tech) brand name...it will come in handy for all your pivot points and latches and hinges ..etc..as it comes out liquid, gets into all the nooks an crannies an then sets up to a nice lube in a few hrs.

Well, I haven't got any white lithium grease yet but I did try the grease that I have, it says on the container that you can use it for latches, and I just spread it onto the latch plate(?) and then put some into the latch, and it works very much better. I suspect that when I get the floor board and the kick panels welded in(which may be soon) it will work even better.
