My 53 chevy 1/2 ton pickup has no rear bumper. What did the trucks come with originally.

For many years, even up to the early '80s, most trucks didn't necessarily come with a factory rear bumper. It was an option. That said, the AD 1/2 ton pickups did come std with a rear bumper, similar in design and shape to the front.

This rear bumper was similar in design and shape as the front bumper but it was a different bumper.

Rear bumpers were also optional in 1954/55 and this rear bumper was distinctly different from the front bumper.

All years of panel body trucks came with front and rear bumpers (same bumper on front and back, but different mounting brackets on front and back).

However, it looks like rear bumpers were standard from 1947-1952 during the Advance-Design years (similar in design and shape as the front bumper but it was a different bumper).

That explains why the rear bumper on my 53 3100, the brackets fit on the inside of the frame rails. My other trucks have the bumper brkts are on the outside, I was convinced the brkts were bent. Thanks.
