The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Painting for the first time

The subject of this project is a 2000 Subaru Outback, but since I'm thinking of the project as practice for painting my old trucks, I think its okay to talk about it here.

Tomorrow I need to buy some filler and primer. I've asked several local people where they buy paint, and the answers have all been the same, the local NAPA store. One of them went on to say not to buy the house brand, but PPG instead.

Tomorrow I'm going to walk in there and don't have a good idea what to ask. I want filler because I'm reparing some damage, and I want something to protect my work until I'm ready to do the color and clear coat.

Any suggestions to help me get what I need?

I'm at that stage too..just a bit ahead of you..

I used Bondo for years..but this time around I'm trying to catch up on new products so I'm trying Rage Gold. Lighter weight and supposedly sands easier..I have often seen it used on the TV restoration shows..Any brand will work fine.

For my money it's Epoxy primer..I buy mine from Southern Polyurethane Inc..But I'm not here to sell a brand name..Clean your metal well and paint with this two part paint and it's supposed to be almost bullet proof. BTW..things have changed since the 70's(when I did most of my bodywork)..The primer goes on first now..then the bondo..err I mean filler

Thanks guys! I walked in and asked a question, and the guy said I don't know, and walked me over to the expert. The expert was an older guy who cares about what you are doing and he was extremely helpful. I'll be back!
