I want to use the throttle cable in the dash as a "cruise control", but I want the foot pedal to "overide" the hand cable in case I ever want to pass anyone.
Any of youse got any pictures or stories to tell about how you accomplished this task? (Especially if you went with a different engine.) I'm using a 250 L6 in my '52.

| | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | Just a warning, using the hand throttle as a "cruise control" is illegal, as there is no safety to relaese the throttle nor is there a true speed control. This could lead to a runaway engine. Best bet would be to get a legit cruise control system with a speed sensor.

It was not at all satisfactory, as it was nearly impossible to maintain a steady speed, and it was disconcerting to have to coordinate the brake pedal and hand throttle to slow down.

The way it mounts is that the center of the throttle cable replaces the cotter pin that holds the accelerator linkage rod into the throttle lever on the carb. When you pull the hand throttle, it tugs the throttle open, but the rod is still free to slide on the cable end so if you floor the gas it still moves.
Another option is to run a short length of chain between the end of the cable and the throttle linkage to accomplish the same thing.
