Just a suggestion, it's preferred that pix are posted is a link, rather than directly placed in the post itself. Really kills the bandwidth, and people on dialup may not be able to see the pix as well.

Or it could be a water injection system popular in the 40's and 50's. But the key is having it sprayed into the manifold at HI PRESSURE through a tiny nozzle.... So that it forms a mist rather than big droplets...

I remember seeing something similar in the manual for my 1947 Chevy coupe. If I come across any information I'll let you know.
