#44888 05/01/2004 12:40 AM | Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 16 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 16 | Yesterday while trying to balance the engine, the shop informed me that one of the rods is 13 grams lighter than the others, and can't be balanced with the others. 5 are forged with no. 3836456 and 1 rod is no. 3836964. The rod I need to replace is one of the 5 numbered 3836456. Reading previous posts, I tried Automobile Archives, but they haven't returned phone calls. I called a few vendors and salvage yards without luck. Any suggestions will be appreciated. | | |

They've got a good supply of reconditioned rods. I know, I did a lot of them myself! I don't remember if they have any old stovebolt stuff, but they have been in business for over 40 years, so it's a possibility. Another possible source is Gardner's Auto Parts, also in Nashville.

Standard Motor Parts in Nashville referred me to Nashville Engine Parts. UPS delivered a reconditioned 3836964 rod this afternoon. Two hours later, the machine shop had it balanced with the other rods. I should have everything back together by Monday. | | |

I worked part-time for Standard for some time, and they're great people to do business with! Nothing like several million dollars' worth of equipment to play with, and it's a 2-generation family operation with a lot of expertise there. They do a lot of heavy-duty diesel engine work, as well as passenger car/light truck machining. The owner is one of the founding members of the Automotive Engine Rebuilders'Association (AERA).
