Hi, I have a 1949 chev 1/2 ton made in Oshawa Ont. Canada on july 15 1949 with the paint#934 stamped on the id plate. From GM Canada I have found out that the colour name is Oshawa blue, DU-251. What shade of blue is that.(Winsor,Export,Mariner,ECT). On the inside I sanded under the speaker grill and the last colour I found was black, also in other hidden places I also found black. Any information welcome.

I have a 1948 GM Canada paint chip sheet where Oshawa Blue (code 834) is illustrated along with Commercial Blue (code 830). The chips on this sheet are very dark but several numbers are included. FYI your Oshawa Blue is Opex O-K Lacquer P-1236, Fleet-X Spraying Enamel X-16607. The same colour goes back to 1940. Sorry I can't be more help. I had a similar problem with my 1948 (Commercial Blue) but the firewall produced some usefull looking samples behind grommets.

Hi, Andrew, thanks for the information, my problem is that the truck was repainted in about 1984 at my dads high school shop. When my dad bought the truck in about 1974 , it was the standard mildew ,green(rust) with car steering wheel, car rearend and trans, missing one rear fender, lots of rust ect.so most paint clues are gone.About the only area not touched is under the hood center strip.I will check. Note: Under hood area is panted black. Now it has a truck rear end so that I can run the 16" wheels all a round.Paid 50$ for a rear end and rear fender in 1976 .I have now bought a torque tube rear end and trans.
