I have a 37 GMC, with a 250 from a 72 nova and a t5 from I don't know what mating these 2 things together is a bell housing from a 70 something Chevelle. Now for my question about flywheels are all the small block and newer 6 cylinders flywheels the same or what. I know about the differance in teeth and clutch size. I just need to know what flywheel to get

Thanks

i have switched several flywheels from v8s to inline 250s and 292s with no problem. i am not very familar with the v8 ones, but i think there are 2 main sizes for the inline sixes. i always use the large size on my 250s and 292s. the one in my 63 was the original one off the 327. it was the same size/ same teeth. there is a change in the flywheel to crank bolts size in the early 70's. if your flywheel has the larger holes i think you can get bushings to use smaller bolts but it's easier to just get the flywheel you need. i also have always used the heavier duty clutch and pressure plate. i bet someone will come along that knows more than i do. good luck, hr

Before you mix and match flywheels, you also should know if the engine is neutral balanced or externally balanced. I presume that the older engines were externally balanced at the flywheel.

All the flywheels interchange on 63 up 6 cyl & 85 on back v-8s. Do not use one from a 400 small block. The 292s had larger bolt holes after the first few years & sometimes were heavier but I dought if you will run into one of those. There are 2 diameters of flywheels & the large one often does not fit in the bellhousing for the small one. Make shure the parts match.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.
