To All,

I crawled under my truck today to try and fix my brakes. A brake hose worked its way loose a few days ago and suddenly, on my way to work, i had no brakes!! =o

After some quick evasize maneuvers and fast downshifts on my automatic transmission, i rolled to a stop--accident-free. *whew*

Anyways, long story aside, I tried to bleed my brakes today. It seems that (so far) two of my valves for bleeding brakes (whatever they're called) are metric!! @#*@#!!! They're also made of aluminum.

Has anyone else encountered this on their truck(s)??

Any advice is welcomed. I'm hoping the SAE threads have not been stripped out when the former owner (or whoever) did this.

you can take them out with vicegrips or whatever if you take the wheel cyl off. that sounds pretty wild i have never seen any aluminum ones. i wouldn't worry you can always buy new wheel cyls if needed. then you can install the easy bleeder type and make bleeding the brakes a blast. hr

ok, it looks like i jumped the gun.

the fittings are stainless steel--i think.

however, one fitting bleeds via a 5/16" wrench and the other three require a 10mm.

strange, i wonder if the thread on the backside is SAE or if the previous owner forced a metric (male) thread into a chevrolet SAE female box.

I will say this: Owning this truck has been a learning experience (prolly like everyone else here).

Stay on your medication, and keep the appointments with your therapist. You'll probably find a lot more stranger things than this before you get done with your ride. Get all of them out, and invest in some Speed Bleeders, and life will be good once again(at least in the brake department).

Welcome to the real world of aftermarket parts. There is no telling what you are going to get anymore regardless of who sells it. I'm finding that I have to modify many of the parts I get to make them fit. It's frustrating but it is a fact.
