Hi everyone. The last few days my 235 has been leaking a bit of antifreeze out of the back of the motor. How many frost plugs are back there and can i change them by just taking out the flywheel? Or do i have to take off the whole bellhousing? I should have put new ones in when i rebuilt the motor 2 years ago frown Just worried about how much room i have between the plugs and then end bellhousing.

Hey PJ,

First, make sure its coming from the rear of the block. Make sure that a leak at the front of the motor isn't running down the back, or the head gasket isn't leaking.

Barring that, its not good news. There may be one core plug at the back of the motor. If there is, I don't know how you'd get to it easily without pulling the motor. If one core plug is going, the others can't be too far behind.

good luck

One freeze plug buried under the bell housing. Why did those danged engineers had to put it there? frown
A can of stop leak might get you by for a while, but it's not permanent. Use either the Bars leak or the copper seal types, not the Prestone in a bottle, it will plug up your radiator.

Since I have one apart right now, there is a freeze plug actually behind the bellhousing that you would have to take the bellhousing off to get to, and a square plug for the oil gallery that you can reach behind the flywheel.

Check to make sure that the block drain fitting isn't leaking, too.
